Joe Goodman's artwork has appeared in every issue of Fur-Fish-Game magazine since 1987. His work has appeared in other publications such as North American Hunter, Muzzleloader, Muzzle Blasts, Trapper's Post, The Trapper & Predator Caller, & Deer and Deer Hunting. You will also find his work in publications of countless state wildlife agencies as well as the BMP trapping manuals.

Some people discover their life's passion an early age. Whether his passion came from an innate desire or a gift from the heavens, youngJoe Goodman liked to draw. On a blank page, the corner of a homework assignment, even on a napkin. Joe would scratch out a figure or trace out an object. Some might call this doodling, yet it's not "chicken scratches" when there's passion involved. Running a small trapline with his father in northwest Ohio, twelve year old Joe began learning about trapping and the outdoors. And immediately upon returning home, he began to sketch trees and ponds, traps and foxes. Discovering the pages of Fur-Fish-Game magazine ignited a fire in young Joe Goodman. His imagination turned from muskrats to wolves and wolverine. Marten and beaver. Joe's passion was growing and so were his skills as an artist.
When Joe Goodman finished high school, he was still trapping and yes, still drawing. His trapping had also graduated to red & grey fox, mink and raccoon. Using the sets and methods gleaned from "Dakota Longliner" Garold Weiland and Pennsylvania's Russ Carman's fox trapping books. Joe enrolled in the prestigious Columbus College of Art & Design with a goal to hone his skills as an illustrator. Maybe he would follow in the footsteps of such greats as Frederic Remington or Norman Rockwell. Ambitious goals, yet the outdoor lifestyle was in Joe's blood and as the leaves changed and temperatures cooled, "college Joe" headed home to the woods for a two week sabbatical of self imposed trapping adventures.

After graduating art college, Joe Goodman knocked on the doors of Fur-Fish-Game magazine, looking for work and eager to display his talents. Joe knew the difference between a coil-sping and a conibear, impressed the editor and was given a "try-out" with two stories to illustrate. Joe went to work. Joe knew this was what he was meant to do. Delivering his work on time, the editor was impressed and Joe has never looked back. In fact Goodman's work has appeared in each issue of Fur-Fish-Game since that fateful first job. Joe developed a personal interest in trapping history and the early fur trade. So he began to sketch portraits of explorers, mountain men and trappers of these early eras. Works that gained quick interest from others. Joe launched a website in 2004 to showcase his work. His limited edition art prints became an instant sensation to trappers and readers of F-F-G. His merchandise line grew to include tee shirts & sportswear printed with his designs. It's likely if you visit the National Trappers Association convention, you'll see Joe at his booth. He's easy to find, as his artwork in unmistakable.

"Running a trapline for muskrats with my Dad during my early school years earned many fond memories that will stay with me forever"— Joe Goodman 2020
